HPBC 50th Anniversary
Sunday 4 August was the 50th birthday of Howard Park Bowls Club. Fortunately the weather was kind to us and we had good number of members and specially invited guests came along for the celebrations It was also a good opportunity to invite, The Worshipful the Mayor and Consort of Basingstoke and Deane Cllr Diane Taylor and Mr Andy Taylor. to officially open our newly refurbished club house.
We also had a visit from David Allard from the BBC South Today programme to interview our President Denis Barber who is 100 years old this year. and possibly the oldest bowls player in Hampshire
Anniversary Triples
This year sees the club's 50th anniversary and a number of special events have been planned. On 30 June we had an invitation triples match when teams from Thornycroft, Oakley, Hook and Andover were welcomed to our new club house
Anniversary Social
7th July saw another event in our anniversary year. Our Chairman Alan Tait organised a series of knockout fun games which he called the Fantasic 5s for members with prizes given at the end. The joke was a £50 prize was on offer, we never saw any of it! Teams were given a colour theme of Blue or Red the games included variations on triples, singles and a really fun crown green bowls to the Chairman's rules. We were joined by some new members who all seemed to have a great time.
There were 30 Howard Park Bowlers who played in the Fantastic 5's competition with the eventual winners being Terry Crame, Christine Sellers, Ken Weedon, Don Shepherd and David Collins.
Also played was a Crown Green competition where the winner was Paul Blunden with John Atkinson and Matt Carter runners-up. Our president presented the final trophy to Paul for the Crown Green winner
